Okay, Diabetes...you got me this week.

WTF!

That has been coming out of my mouth all week long in regards to Adam's numbers. The beginning of the week, he was low, low, low. So low that on Monday, I think I gave him 1 unit of Novolog total during the day.

Fast-forward to today, and his blood sugar hasn't been under 155 all day long. 310 at 8:30am, gave a correction, then he was 180 after preschool. 179 this afternoon and now he's 240 an hour and a half after his 2 units of Novolog for dinner. It's a fresh batch of insulin, too.

I give. I give.

I guess my plan is to watch this over the weekend and call the endo on Monday to see if things need to be increased. No ketones so far, thank goodness.

I'm also so ready for a pump. So ready. And a Dexcom. Let's face it, I'm getting greedy now. We have great insurance finally and I'm going to go for broke. :)

  1. Go for it, my friend! If you're paying the premiums and have good coverage, you'd better get whatever you can!

As for the numbers....hang on....it could be a bumpy ride and, hopefully, a cure will make it stop soon!!!

  2. Hi. I'm Deanna. My son was diagnosed just a couple months before yours. I'm totally ready for a pump, but we have to wait till after the first of the year.

My boy has been showing some wonky numbers lately too. High one minute, low the next. It can be exhausting, as I'm sure you know. Hang in there.

  3. A day-in-the-life baby a day-in-the-life...UGH...and hold on. I hope that things "sugar out" or that a pattern develops so that you and your CDE can make some effective adjustments to the ratios etc.

  4. Go for the Dexcom BABY!!!
Why not? If insurance pays... soak it up.

I hope your numbers straighten out.

  6. If it makes you feel any better Ellie has been all over the place too. Just when I'm ready to change some rates and ratios...the numbers flip flop and I have to wait! This has been going on for 2 weeks...sooooo I wait and wait until we get a pattern for at least 3 days if not 5! You'll like the CGM and the pump. Get a book called, "Beyond Fingersticks" by William Lee Dubois. I just got it a couple of days ago (haven't finished it yet) but it's the only book I've come across that gives some philosophy behind the CGM and he tries to give an explanation of what you should expect of the current level of technology and where it came from. Dexter can really piss me off sometimes, but most of the time it's because I don't really know what the damn thing is suppose to be capable of in the first place! Happy pumping and CGM-ing!!! Keep us posted! Loves and Hugs!
