Learning to Let Go.

I'm a mom who likes to do it all. I mean, I'm a SAHM for a reason, right?

Birthdays are a big thing for me...I love nothing more than throwing an awesome birthday party for my kiddos. We have always had "home" birthday parties...sometimes they involve swimming, sometimes they involve bounce houses, but they always include homemade treats, special homemade decorations, a special "theme" with matching goody bags/gifts. You get the idea. I stressed myself out, but it was so worth it in the end to have a fun party for my kids.

This year? I'm learning to let go of some things.

Chuck E. Cheese is hosting Adam's 5th birthday party this weekend. Granted, it has been his undying wish to have his birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese for the last 6 months, so he'll hardly be disappointed. I'm even letting go of the goody bags and Chuck E. Cheese is providing the Bag-O-Crap for $1.99 a head.

I'm actually breathing a sigh of relief. I just can't do it all and I need to let it go sometimes and realize that my kids aren't going to be tortured by the fact that I didn't plan a homemade birthday for them. Heck, they'll probably be happier.

But I'm still making the cake and cupcakes. That I'll never let go of. :)

  1. I realized a little while ago that if I do try to do it all, then I'll go crazy... then everybody suffers, right?

But man, it sure can be hard to let go!

  2. Hiya Stephanie! It will feel sooooooo good and sooooooo worth it when you see the mile long smile on your boy's face when he sees that creepy big mouse. I did it too, for my Ellie, when she turned 3. The bag o'crap was worth the experience and the promise that I never have to do that again!!!!

  3. I suck at ALL.OF.IT. I rarely make a cake and I definitely farm out the parties. Joe's b-day is going to be at an ice rink. I may make the cake this year...not sure yet. His B-day is 4/29...when is Adam's?

  6. You know...I wouldn't call it anything but SIMPLIFY! When D enters a family’s life, we all begin the long tedious task of simplification and recognition of what is really important! Be proud of yourself. Like you said it's what he really wants anyway and it will be LOTS less stress on you!!! Happy B-Day Adam!!!

  8. My motto is "keep your expectations low and you'll never be disappointed." Instead of bumming about farming out his birthday, be proud you're even having a party at all!! ;) Happy Birthday to the little dude!

  9. Awesome! It is so healthy for you to know your limits, yet also insist on doing the cupcakes if you enjoy it! You are one smart cookie. Happy Birthday to your little guy.

  10. I can so relate to this post. Most years, I've held those themed parties with the coordinating invitations, activities, cake and favors, and I've loved every stressed-out moment of putting them together! This year I just couldn't do it. We did Peter Piper, and you know it was a blast! Looks as though your CEC party was a blast too! :)
