Nova Max! Just in the nick of time...

Guess what we got in the mail today? Our FREE Nova Max blood glucose/ketone meter. I learned about this from Tracy on Facebook a few weeks ago. I loved the idea that it was a blood glucose meter AND a blood ketone meter all in one. Haven't got one yet? Get yours here: http://www.novacares.com/cwd/

Anyway, the best part is that it also came with 10 free test strips and 2 blood ketone strips. And if you read yesterday's post...we are scrimping and saving our test strips until our shipment from Medco arrives on Wednesday. (Yeah, I called first thing this morning to find out where it was!)

We used it tonight and I wanted to do a side-by-side comparison of the Nova Max and our One Touch strips. Here are the results (from the same blood drop):

I've never compared two meters before, so I don't know if this is a good comparison or not...but they're 30 points apart - not TOO bad, I guess. Now I wonder which one is really more accurate!

Either way, I'm grateful for 10 extra test strips to get us through the next few days! :)

  1. Cool! I didn't see this on FB.

  2. It's amazing how meters can be off from one another -- when you see that, you don't feel so bad when you see the same disparity with the Dex! Roselady

  3. I'm not sure what to think of that difference either. That would be a lot if he was much lower. We just got our first blood ketone meter too and the pharmacy had to special order the strips, but we have them now! I am all ready to put it to use the next time she is sick (not that I'm excited for her to get sick, but you know!). Nicole D.

  4. I will be doing my review on ours soon. The blood glucose for us was a VERY close match, I think just a few points.

I tried a ketone strip too, just to see how it worked and what the display looked like. I have to say I am disappointed in this aspect of it. Maybe I will get my blog done today to explain. :)

Thankful for you to have extra strips right now! We can meet up if you want some one touch ones before your shipment comes in, just let me know. :)

  5. The other day when I was doing the two BG tests for the dex start up, they were 204 and 244. Proof of the 20% margin of error! Makes me CRAZY!

  6. Thanks for sharing...this would be great for an extra at school!
The margin of error drives me nuts, too! Sometimes they can be spot on, other times they really push that 20%!!

  7. We *LOVE* this meter!! We have it, but we paid $90 for each of them! It requires the least blood, and is sooo consistent-doesn't require three strips to check like One Touch! ; )
I entered to get one too, I don't know if they'll give me one since we have two, but here's hoping!! thanks for the info!!! : ) HOlly

  9. We had two meters and compared and they were 100 points off AND the control solution tests on both showed them both to be "accurate". It maddens me !
