I'm Losing My Mind

This sign is mine.

Ironically, I purchased it about a month ago, thinking it was quite hilarious and I had to have it.

Little did I know, that it would become quite literal.

The last few weeks things have been slipping my mind. Not little things...big things like doctor's appointments. Adam had an eye appointment with his surgeon last week at 8:30am on a Thursday. That Thursday morning I was in my PJ's, drinking some tea when I looked up at the clock and it said 8:25. I freaked out and called the office and they said I could still come if I could be there in 10 minutes.

I made it. But the doctor probably wondered why I never took my coat off in the office, because I was wearing my pajamas underneath it. **sigh**

Then I missed a dental appointment for Sydney to get sealants on her teeth. I got my phone reminder, my email reminder and I STILL missed it - and didn't even realize it until the next day.

I DON'T MISS APPOINTMENTS!

This is so uncharacteristic of me.

Today was the final straw. I went to Sprouts (grocery store) with Adam, loaded it in my car and headed back home to drop it off before I had to pick up Sydney from school. I got home and grabbed for my purse. IT WASN'T THERE.

I panicked and realized that I left my purse IN THE SHOPPING CART IN THE PARKING LOT. And it also had Adam's PING REMOTE IN IT!

Shit on a stick.  I left Adam in the car, called Sprouts and luckily, some nice person had indeed found my purse and brought it into the store.

I am losing my mind, people. I have never left my purse anywhere. I just don't do these things. I'm wondering if it's old age (can I claim that at 35?) or tired-mama-pancreas-brain? I'm not sure, but it's kind of starting to scare me.

  1. I always blame it on sleep deprivation :) With two little kiddos who have T1D and a mountain of "to-do lists", I have lost my mind NUMEROUS times, that can crack even the toughest d-mama!

I can't even tell you how many times I've walked into a room and stood there like a deer in headlights wondering what in the heck did I come in here for?!

I would go with the 'tired-mama-pancreas-brain' theory...because hey, 35 aint' old girlfiend ;)

  2. I can so relate...I used to be so organized and then "D" came and messed that all up! I don't remember anything anymore. I'm sure many other D Moms can relate too!

  3. Yeah... I've put egg whites in the cupboard and Pam in the fridge. Losing it!

  4. Maybe you're pregnant. That can make you forgetful too!
Oh Sprouts. That's a fun store. I go there when I visit my aunt in AZ!

  5. Oh no!! That's a gut wrenching feeling. I've done that, too. I'm blaming it all on lack of sleep at the moment. Whenever I start sleeping again, I'll have to blame it on old age. :) P.S. I forgot to pick up Zach at school the other day.

  8. Glad to hear you got your purse back safe and sound!

Today I put Mattias down and forgot where he was. I went room to room searching for him. When I went into the first room where I thought I had put him and he wasn't there, I FREAKED out!

  10. Thank goodness for kind people! I'm so glad you received everything safe and sound. I've defintely found myself a bit scattered since Andrew's diagnoses. Hang in there, you're doing a great job! Hey, you still got to the appointment!

  11. I'm there with you. I used to be the most organized person you ever met. I mean O.R.G.A.N.I.Z.E.D.
To the point of being scary. :)
Now I fly by the seat of my pants. I hold on tight and I just hope and pray we all make it through alive... litterally.
I forget things ALL.THE.TIME. I will find myself in mid-sentence... clueless to what I was in the middle of saying.
You are not loosing it, sweetie... you are a D Mama. And a darn good one at that. Don't beat yourself up. (((HUGS)))
*PS - it just struck me as ironic that the first 5 letters of organized is "organ".... and its a damn organ that took AWAY our organization!!! Hu! The nerve!

  12. We missed a dentist appointment too. One where we even got a letter that point blank said to be there 1 hour before our 9:15 appointment and I still thought it was at 9:30! LOSING. IT!!! So sad! I seriously used to be organized to the point of being OCD. Oh well! I'd like to say "this too shall pass", but I'm ot so sure! :)

  13. You went in your jammies? I am cracking up! That is awesome!! I think it's called D-brain combined with sleep deprivation! I'm right there with ya. Missing appointments, leaving things places and forgetting everything!!!

  14. I just missed a dentist appointment this morning for all 3 of my kids. It wouldn't have been so unbelievable if I hadn't confirmed the appointment just yesterday!

And going in your jammies rock. That is pancreatic dedication.

    Love the sign!!!!

  15. Seriously, you are not alone. I have had moments where I contempated going to see a doctor about it. I'm fine then, BAM! Two weeks for forgetting everything! But the good news is, it doesn't last forever. It is like a virus that comes and goes...it will be ok!
