Our first JDRF Walk!

Our JDRF Walk was this past Saturday - what a great day! We had a lot of fun and felt great to be "doing something." We raised over $2500 - not too bad for our first go-round!

The only sad moment of the day was at the end of the walk, and Adam looked up at me and said, "Do I still have diabetes?"

Talk about breaking a momma's heart! I think he thought that "Walk for the Cure" meant he'd be cured. But hey, he's 4. :)

  1. Yep, I get it. Ditto. I think we all are surprised by who "gets it", who "steps up", who lends a hand. Hang in there and know you also have many d mamas on-line who love and support you.

  2. Every year I'm surprised when people I would expect to support our family don't....and people I've never even met do.

    It stings. A lot.

This was our fifth walk. And, even though I've come to expect it...it still hurts for a minute.

But then I look around at all the people who ARE there and remind myself of the love people DID show us....and I find strength in the encouragement of the blessings that DO exist all around our family.

  4. Some people just don't have any idea. They don't know how labor intensive this disease is. Don't let it get you down. They just don't get it. Congrats on the huge success of your team! Hugs to your sweet Adam for believing so fiercely in a cure.

  5. Earlier this year we participated in our first walk and my daughter's friend's little sister asked the same thing, "Will she be cured at the end of the walk?" If only.

  6. Thankfully Ellie didn't pick up on the CURE...I didn't have to explain it to her and feel the pain you must have. Wow on the money raised! Nice job sista! ((hugs))

  7. Sounds like a great experience. I still feel hurt over family that didn't even respond to our walk in any way, but I'm trying to let it go! I understand how it goes.
Glad Halloween went OK. Adam sounds like the "honeymoonest" child I've ever heard of! And although people always comment how great that is, I know it can be frustrating too!
